Madhurapradhirodham “which is an ICMR funded research project, gives a new ray of hope in the diabetes capital of the world, as it focus upon healthy lifestyle intervention to GDM (Gestational diabetes mellitus) mothers who are at a higher risk of Type II diabetes. In our COM-B (capabilities, Opportunities, Motivators) model, we focus upon providing tailor made Interventions based on personal visits, structured education sessions, video reels, website, booklets and so on, which are based on extensive field research and comprehensive field assessments. The project in long run aims to create behavioral changes, not only to GDM mothers, but their whole family as well-that is to get rid of everything contributed by sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy dietary preferences. In future, this study can be extended to different districts across India and the findings can be used to make urgent policy interventions as the conversion of GDM mothers to Type II diabetes happens within 2 -7 years immediately after delivery.
